1.25 inch Steel Strapping
There have been some exciting developments in steel strapping recently. There are now light battery powered combo tools for 1.25" steel strapping that pull band tight, seal, and cut all in one, click here to see the Kodiak. If 14 pounds is too heavy, then you can split the tensioner (STB, and Grip Pack 114 PB) from the sealer (Grip Pack RCBD1431). You can also use a battery powered cutter (Grip Pack Cutter). There are some more combo tools on the horizon (BPT-H32), and we are ready to cut the pneumatic cord and switch to mobile steel strapping battery powered tools!
The 1 1/4" x .025" steel strap is a cost saver with 16% more footage per pound. The other advantage is tools will last longer. Thinner .025" banding is much easier for the dies, knife, and jaws on steel strapping tools to pull though the bottom of their range (.025") compared to the top (.031" or higher). Our steel strapping is guaranteed to meet or exceed ASTM D3950. Black painted and waxed steel strapping is the industry standard. This product has a minimum quantity of 24 coils (1 skid), and must be ordered in multiples of 24 coils. For less than skid use the .029" or .031" steel strapping.
The 1 1/4" x .029" steel strap has break strength of 5,450 pounds with 8.1 feet per pound. This is the most commonly used 1 1/4" steel banding. Steel strapping is edged, painted black, and waxed. Coil weight 104 lb. +/- 10%, 20-24 Coils per skid. Our 1 1/4" steel strapping is rail road approved (AAR) and marked. American made steel strapping is heat treated, and is the staple of heavy industry. 1 1/4" x .029" has become the standard size steel strapping used in the metals industry. AAR steel strapping has a minimum 6.5% elongation per ASTM D3953. Guaranteed to meet ASTM specifications. 1 1/4" steel banding used to be most of the strapping tonnage used in the US. Today plastic strapping is making a big dent. Cord strap is now the standard for loading pipe in rail cars, and high tensile polyester strapping is up to 1 1/4"! We expect steel strapping to decrease inversely with poly strapping. There are several things plastic strapping can never do, such as hot coil (or anything above 200 degrees).
The 1 1/4" x .031 High Tensile steel strapping strapping is ribbon wound, with coil weight around 105 pounds. It is edged (deburred), painted black (blue steel strapping available on special order), and waxed. This high tensile steel strapping is rail road approved (AAR is marked in white or embossed). The break strength is 5,450 pounds, and is suggested to work with hand tools, pneumatic tools, battery powered tools, and automatic equipment. There are 7.6 feet per pound of steel strapping. The 1.25 inch steel strapping is commonly used with pusher (closed), or snap-on (open) seals. American made steel strapping is heat treated, and is the staple of heavy industry. 1 1/4" x .031" has become the standard size steel strapping used in the metals industry. AAR steel strapping has a minimum 6.5% elongation per ASTM D3953. The 1 1/4" x .031" Punched steel strapping with 20-24 coils per skid. Steel strapping can be center punched, staggered punched, and alternating punched large hole/small hole (screw/nail). Punched banding is commonly used for many construction purposes. 1.25” punched steel band is used as bracing for concrete forms, support for framing, hurricane tie downs, HVAC, and insulation. We stock a hot dipped galvanized 1 1/4” punched that is commonly used as X bracing for pole barns.
The 1 1/4" x .035" High Tensile steel strapping has break strength of 6,655 pounds and 6.7 feet per pound. This size is now special order. Please contact Allstrap for 1.25" x .035" steel strapping. If you do use this size, check out the new battery powered crimper for it BC1444.
The 1 1/4" x .040" High Tensile steel strapping. This size is now special order. Please contact Allstrap for 1.25" x .040" steel strapping. If you do use this size, check out the new battery powered crimper for it BC1444.
The 1 1/4" x .044" High Tensile steel strapping has break strength of 7,600 pounds and 5.3 feet per pound. This size is now special order. Please contact Allstrap for 1.25" x .044" steel strapping. If you do use this size, check out the new battery powered crimper for it BC1444.
Allstrap Opinion: Generally we prefer PET strapping over steel strapping for light duty applications, so check out the P331 or BXT3-32 tools to see if they can work for you. For heavy applications check out the 1.25” x .050” PET strap (with a great video of a pipe bunk, and railroad tie bunk getting beat up). If you do not use very much banding, and already have tools, it is fine to stay with 1 1/4” steel strapping. All round applications must stay with 1 1/4” steel strapping.
